December Self-Care Challenge Day 11: 5 Things you Love About the Holidays

The holidays can get pretty busy, and we can often lose sight of why we are putting so much energy into events, presents, decorating, and all the other fun things that come up but that because there is so much it stops being fun and feels more like a burden.

So, today’s self-care challenge is simple but could create a big difference in your outlook over the coming weeks.

Today, I invite you to write 5 things you love about the Holidays. Just to create a little reminder to yourself about why we do what we do.

When you have your list put it somewhere that you will see it daily. I am putting mine up on my bathroom mirror because it gives me energy as I prepare for the day’s events.

To get you going here are my top 5 reasons why I love the Holidays!

Emily Top 5 Holiday Loves:

1) Quality time with my family whether its sitting and talking or watching holiday movies as we string popcorn for the tree, it’s all quality time for me.

2) Letting Others know how much I appreciate and love them. This can be through cards, phone calls, a dropped off goodie plate, or the presents under the tree. (here’s a pic of a goodie plate I dropped off at a cousin’s house last weekend).

3) Eating all the goodies. Uh I love sweet things and I’m not afraid to admit that I gorge a bit on them during the holidays because they are all so good! I try a new dessert recipe each year and this year I tried out peppermint creams (you all got that recipe on day 9) 😊 They are delicious!!!

4) Time to Reflect. I don’t know about you but the holiday season, busy as it is, always brings up reflection time for me. What I love about my life and what I am doing, what I have accomplished over the past 12 months, and what I want to accomplish in the next 12. With us expecting a baby boy in June reflection of how my life will change and what that means has been paramount this year.

5) Singing. My family has always been one that enjoys singing together. Throughout my life, every holiday, we would gather around my parents’ piano, my brother or sister would break out the guitar and we would all sing. I remember nights as a teenager, when I loved singing so much, I would go to the piano and just start playing hymns and holiday songs and little by little my family would gather with me, impromptu with no demands other than enjoying the music and the way we blended our voices together. I can still see my dad quietly rocking in his chair, his eyes closed, and he listened to us sing. Best memories are the simple ones, right?

What are your top 5 reasons you love the holidays?
